Two creatures existed at this point in Earth's history.
There were the humans, scared and living in the deepest reaches of the forests.
And there were the otherworldly, crystal-armored soldiers, their names and faces forgotten to the world, simply known as the Diamond Army.
Humankind lived in fear of these strange creatures; of their shimmering face-masks carved into frightening scowls of pointed fangs and lolling tongues, cold eyes glaring from behind their crystalline confines, a thousand times more terrifying than the mask itself.
But as we know, where there is fear among humans, there is violence.
The humans took every chance they could to shoot their crystal overlords out of the sky as they flew overhead on great, armored wings, though it was a rare day when they managed to hit one.
This night, under the boughs of an ancient oak, the huntress gained the honor of being one of the few people to shoot down one of the crystal soldiers.
Her arrow had lodged firmly in the soldier's wing, sending it spiraling down into the trees, a dull thump signaling it's landing. The huntress smiled at her good luck and bounded off through the trees in search of her prize. Once she found it, she paused, examining her work.
The soldier lay on it's side, seemingly unconscious, it's wing a mess of blood and feathers. A quiet groan from the creature prompted her closer, it's voice sounding surprisingly human. The huntress inched closer, reaching to remove the scowling face-mask.
At once, the soldier sat up, sky-blue eyes wide with what appeared to be fear, scrambling back until it hit a tree. It winced and suck in a pained breath as it's wing hit the same tree.
The huntress approached it slowly, hands raised to show she meant no harm.
"Calm down. I'm not gonna hurt you."
The soldier eyed her bow skeptically.
She rolled her eyes and tossed the weapon aside. "Better?"
A hesitant nod.
The huntress stepped closer, reaching again for the creature's mask. It froze, but didn't try to escape as she pulled it off.
Now that she could see it's face, "it" didn't seem to be the proper term.
The soldier appeared to be a young man, rather handsome, with large blue eyes and ivory hair. His ears had long points, and the huntress could see a set of dainty fangs peeking out of his half-open mouth.
"What's your name?"
The soldier raised an eyebrow at her. "Why do you need to know that? Aren't you just going to kill me?"
The huntress shook her head.
"... Jizah."
"Your name is Jizah?"
The soldier frowned defensively. "What's wrong with that name?"
The huntress shrugged. "Nothing."
Jizah quieted down, looking pointedly away from her. The huntress took that opportunity to pull the arrow out of his wing. It didn't seem to cause him much discomfort.
She paused to regard her captive, though Jizah didn't act much like one. In fact, he looked rather bored with it all.
He also looked vulnerable.
"... Do you know how some humans greet each other, Jizah?"
The soldier shook his head, eyes widening as she leant in towards his face. "W-what are you doing?!"
"Showing you."
Jizah swallowed. "O-oh."
The huntress smiled faintly, placing a hand on his chest, feeling his rapid heartbeat, their faces only a hair's breadth apart.
Their lips met.
Jizah's eyes fluttered shut.
And then opened wide again when a dagger met his back.
(So I think this "Diamond Army" was my subconscious saying "ANGELS. :I")
(And the one that was shot down may have been my mind saying "Here's a new one." o3o)
